Photo diaries from travels around our humble globe are still being posted; the unemployment diary has been downsized as i am now employed! I hope to post stuff to keep you distracted from your respective employment.

A while back the American Society of Magazine Editors picked their top 40 magazine covers of the past 40 years. Sadly, you can't magnify them in any way, but they are still interesting.

With some problems, you need to think outside the box.

10 Years to save the world - and a Government Cover up??

My wife and i have this little routine when it comes to auto maintenance and a few other things.

I tend to adopt the attitude of "it's not as bad as it seems" until whatever problem is currently happening grows to becoming very expensive.

So the way my wife tells me these things has evolved to "it's much worse than it seems" to try to get my attention - and rightly so.

Only problem is, i know this. so - i might take such a claim even less seriously. Of course, she counters this by turning up the problem, till the wheels are flying off the car!

I say this parable because i tend to think it's something like the environmental scientists and the rest of the world.

We have the attitude of "it's not as bad as it seems". But going on our current course will cost us bg time down the road.

This forces the environmental scientists into a bit of overstatement - so we get articles like today's. "We have 10 years to save the world." Not only that, but "The government knows this, but is covering it up".

And to be honest, i hope it works. I just wonder if it will only make us more deaf 10 years down the road when the world is still out there.

Does Your iTunes have Static, Fuzz, or Hiss Sound for You?

Does Your iTunes have Static, Fuzz, or Hiss Sound for You?

Mine did. I got new speakers for my Birthday yesterday - imagine my disapointment when there was still a terrible hissing sound from all the music and podcasts. I thought I'd need to replace my soundcard or something. But then i noticed that sounds on websites weren't making the same sound.

The proof came when i played the same MP3's in WinAmp and iTunes, and the former sounded crystal clear.

Well, bless the web. I had to dig quite deep, so i'm posting this blog in hopes that others Googling this issue will find this and get a straightforward answer!

Go to START / CONTROL PANEL. In there you will find a Quicktime Icon. Click it, and go to the AUDIO tab, as pictured above. Check that SOUND OUT frame - pump your rate up, max that out (Mine was set at 32 kHz). You might want to change to 24 bit too, if your soundcard supports it.

And that's it! I must have searched every setting in iTunes, only to find it was way over in control panel....

My Buddy Jodster from JPTH and his wife Z are great chefs. They can bake cakes in crazy configurations, and i thought that the Pac-Man Chasing the Blue Ghost cake was the best "geek cake" i'd ever see. But these ones from Engadget....well....they take the cake! A WORKING Sony Trio.... a replica ATARI 2600.... phones, ipods, and all kinds of crazy confections!!

One of my favorite films of 2005 was "Murderball" - the story of a wheelchair rugby team competing in the summer paralympic games. Well, the winter Paralympic games are on right now - and i find this more interesting, more fascinating than the Olympic games. Not to be confused with the "Special Olympics", these are tough athletes that with each event demonstrate ability over disability. Amazing stuff. See how your athletes are doing, and if you can, watch an event....

Aparently the solution to dropping ratings in the Winter Olympics is.... to hold them on HOTH! Hmm, those crazy Americans think that just because THEY would rather watch American Idol the rest of the world wasn't interested in the games. Well, whatever. I have a bad feeling about this....

Another fine movie quiz, this one a whole lot easier. There's still a few that, if you get, you should really go outside.

One of the greatest games for the atari 2600 was Combat. Now, improving on that concept and free to all.... TurboTanks

Wow, this story is pretty incredible. Blows me away.

Chuck Norris Facts!

I was reading a fairly serious article in a local paper about the dying downtown core of my local city. Ok, i was skimming.

But the article ended with this hilarious footnote - For more (completely unrelated) information, visit www.chucknorrisfacts.com .

Well, of course, i had to, and what an education it gave me! Like....

"There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live."
and
"The leading causes of death in the United States are: 1. Heart Disease 2. Chuck Norris 3. Cancer"
