Man, what's the deal with AOL?

Don't they know their place in the nerd universe? They are supposed to be that punchline to a plethera of geek jokes. Your uncle Robert's isp. The ubiquitous coaster CD's they sent out seemed to pile up and made us finally break our no-throwing-out-cd's policy in the early 90's.

But suddenly, is it just me...but....when did they stop sucking so much? Dare i speak those words??

It all began when they posted the complete Live 8 concerts in their entirety in a nice interface that never seemed to enter the buffering zone. To this they added tons of free music videos with huge pipes, some really great music (which is uncharacteristically not just big pop but names like DJ Shadow). Funny abstract articles that compare the nutritional content of different videos??

It's scary. But i'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Not when i can watch the seminole video "My Humps" again. Honestly it's the best song since Milkshake.

Need a break? Here's a quick free trip to france.

In real life, the hardest part is stopping between the letters. That and it's dificult to correct spelling mistakes.

Tiki Tiki

Horay! Santa brought me cocktail ingrediants!!

While we are on the subject- one of my favorite shows is not on any television. It's Tiki Bar TV and it's only available on the web or by podcast via iTunes.

There are 3 characters- "Dr Tiki" - the main problem solver and prescriber of mixed drink solutions, "Johnny Johnny" the Bartender and filler of said prescriptions, and Lala, the tiki bar babe. Each episode there's some new crisis to solve, and each week there's a new cocktail recipe.

Favorite episodes so far is probably still "The London Fogcutter" (itunes link)- but "Drinkbot" (itunes) and "Red Oktober" (itunes) are nothing to sneeze at either! Posted by Picasa

What do you get the person who has everything? How about an 8 foot long Star Destroyer made of lego? All proceeds go to hurcane Katrina relief, but as of this posting, bidding is at $31,600 !

2 of the best ingredients to any christmas party this season - an oversized jenga and a chocolate fountain! A lot of novely gadgets aren't what they are cracked up to be when you actually get them going - but the chocolate fountain delivers on all it's promises!!

Ah this is why the web is wonderful. Stupid little games that would survive nowhere else. In this little sadistic wonder, (called, apropriately "AntCity") you are a giant, looking over a city, with a magnifine glass. Wonder what will happen? Like SImCity for psychotics.

I know why you're here. It's the friday before christmas weekend and NO ONE wants to work. Don't worry, i got your back. Here's some freaky-deaky illusions.

The Robin Williams post got nearly 20,000 hits. This one probably won't. HowtoFoldaShirt.net

A while back i wrote about the Google Zeitgeist - a place you can see what the most people on the internet are searching for that week. Well - Google's just posted their "Year end" Zeitgiest- can you believe the winner is bloomin Janet Jackson??? Oi.

Well, the photo didn't turn out - but anyone who watched Seseme street for any length of time would appreciate this Familly-Guy sendup. I've still yet to see a show of the later, but now i'm tempted.

It's been a while since we've had a StarWars link! Remember, nothing says "I love you" like getting Episode III for christmas. Die Younglings!!

This clever video made me wonder - what came first, the picture or the sound?

Made me smile!

You know what's wierd? Finding articles about you in other languages. I would love to be in a sitcom, just to be able to go to a foreign country and turn on the TV and see myself speaking strange languages.

Stop me if you've seen this one before - it's kind of long in the tooth but - the live, hand written, pencil-clock-calender thiny.

Think you can do a better job than Bush? Hmmmm? Go ahead! Put yours words in his mouth with the George Dubya speechwriter.

Mork & Me

Honestly, I'm having the wierdest day.

I go to the apartment i'm still renting (despite buying a house) and there, on the corner, stands Robin Williams. How odd. And somehow I end up talking to him about... videogames.

He's actually in town filming a movie called "Man of the Year" - a hilarious sounding film in which a talk show host runs for president on a lark - and ... suprise suprise.... ok i don't need to fill in the rest but it's directed by Barry Levinson (who was running around unnoticed pretty much) who did great political spoof in Wag the Dog but is probably better known for films like Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam, Sleepers... etc

So my wife calls me this morning from town- "Hey. I'm looking at Robin Williams." Oh right. So he's doing this movie at the DELUXE resturant. The Deluxe is an old diner that has been shut since the 60s, and nothing has been changed inside. So lately shows like The West Wing and various movies have been using it as a location - this would probably be the highest profile one.

(West Wing - you can see the
guy who plays JOSH and
Jimmy Smits in in there
somewheres too)

Man of the Year -
Robin on the right.

This is the second film that's currently filming in Dundas, for some reason Dundas is the place to be. Perhaps I should make a blog of what's currently filming in Dundas at any given moment- you'd be suprised.

So i watched as Robin's character drives up in a car, escorted by SUVs - secret service agents get out of the SUVs and escort him in the resturant. Exciting stuff!

Well, I went home, and later went back to my Dundas apartment to get some gear, and there he was just below my apartment, at a bank, surrounded by people getting photos and shaking hands. These were actually extras- this was a live shot of him pressing the flesh, so to speak. I kind of didn't realise this at the time and just sort of crowded in and tood some photos. I don't think they minded!!

Then someone yelled cut. Wow, i'll remember you all when i'm famous.

So Robin then talks to some people and signs autographs. He looks at me standing there with my toolkit, and says something about it - it didn't really make much sense. So I remembered that i read somewhere he was a big fan of online gaming - so I asked him

"Hey Robin - do you still play online games?"
"Oh way too much!" he said.
"What are you playing these days?" I asked
"Battlefield 2 - the 2 stands for 2 in the morning."
"Oh really? What class do you like?"
"What class do you like to play as?"
"Oh - the sniper. I'm always the sniper!" he said enthusiastically.
"Well I'll watch out for you"
"Well you can try - but by the time you see me you'll be dead!!"

Sadly I don't think my own rig can properly float Battlefield 2 - so I'll have to take his word for it.

The prince of a guy stayed and signed some autographs, and took some photos (including the one at the top) before being ushered away.

Hey the trailer is now out for this movie, huzzah.

OPENOFFICE is the free open source office suite that is fully compatible with MS office. I've never used it. But i'm considering it for my the machines we are soon to get for our church. Does anyone have experience with these packages? Please share!

Impressive mario goodness!

Perhaps to you TV owners out there, this is old news. But to me, this commercial is great. Man do i miss good commercials. Almost worth getting cable for.
