OK, I know i said that was the last Star Wars post. But that was before I saw this one - Darth Vader reads your mind. Sometimes with the help of that creepy Burger King guy!!

OK last Star Wars post for a while, i promise.

What really really amazes me this time round is the shameless, shameless marketing of Star Wars! The thing is, since the movie doesn't suck --- i don't mind. I'm even finding it amusing. In fact, i've got Starwars underooos on as we speak.

So, bring on the Chewbacca hair commercials, the R2 burger king, the M&M's dark chocolate adds.

Yes, even roll on the Star Wars "LightSaber Umbrella". Fight the darkside of, um, acid rain, with this little beauty.

Well, the missus and i went last night at midnight and queued up with the jedis, the stormtroopers, the bounty hunters and watched the final (for now!) installment of the StarWars saga!

And the result is VERY good!! Both Charlotte and i loved it. Sure, it had it's daft moments, but it was uber cool, and when it got down to business, it REALLY got down to a dark and bloody business!

It was a great crowd. That makes a difference. Everyone cheered and laughed and clapped enthusiastically, but not to that annoying point. Best crowd moment - at 12:01 when "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...." comes up, someone says "oh wait, i've seen this one"!! everyone disolved....

Anyhow loved it, loved everyone getting their hands dirty, oh boy did Anakin ever go evil. And the aftermath of his duel with ObiWan is severely gruesome! Enough to give kids nightmares for a loooong time!

If I had a list of a few "observations" (not necessarily complaints), they'd be this (SPOILER alert)
  • Grevious (cyborg dude with two sabers picture above) was not nearly as invincible as the Clone Wars animated series makes him out to be. Sure he was cool, but he wasn't 10-feet-tall-take-out-6-jedis-a-day ubercool.
  • Still no hint about Master Sifo Dias
  • Who was Sideous' master he elludes to? Was it this Darth Plegueis the wise? I'm thinking probably, but it's not stated.
  • my wife still winges about Leia's quote about remembering her real mother
  • Still no cannon explanation of ObiWan and Yoda disapearing instead of leaving a corpse, despite the idea of communing with QuiGon. (the script gives a bit more of a clue, but not much)
  • And on that note, couldn't we have seen a blue ghost of QuiGon??
So, will I see it again? I'm sure I will. And I'll be first in line for the DVD.

At Last, StarWars week is upon us! Now, I know you've seen about 1000 parodys, take-offs and just plain rip offs of star wars. But this one's worth seeing-- the forclings promote the virtues of organic farming. And both I and the missus laughed our keisters off. You will need sound!

Threadbared.com >> Adventures in retro knitting patterns. (What sort of things did the geniuses who created this do before the internet? It wasn't that long ago!)

What's the oddest thing i've read today? I'm glad you asked. I'm not nearly as cynical as I should be about these things.

Wow. This site is fantastic. "Post Secret Blog": People annonymously send in confessions on home made postcards. The postcards are really well made. This guy puts up a new one on his blog as they arrive. I wish my blog was so cool. The more you read, the more drawn in you get.

What could be cooler than an inflatable Dalek?

Whoa they also got Remote Control Daleks. I think i just had a nerdgasm.

If you haven't checked out the new Dr. Who yet, i reccomend you do! They manage to make it cool, modern, but still somehow low-tech and campy, like the old series. It's all good fun. Tonight on CBC has the return of the Dr's arch-enemy, the mighty daleks. Or one of them, anyhow.

HowStuffWorks.com is an excellent site that explains how just about anything works from the cumbustion engine to the nuclear bomb. There are handy animations and diagrams showing each step of the process. Today they've taken a lighter topic (no pun intended): How Lightsabers Work. Expect these entries to continue until the end of may!!!
